The Company is responsible for hazardous industrial facilities (HIF), which are an integral part of the working environment and production processes. The Company strives to mitigate safety risks by improving production processes, ensuring the reliability of equipment and introducing new technologies.

In order to meet industrial safety requirements, Uralkali works continually to develop production control procedures, satisfy all requirements from regulatory and supervisory authorities and assess risks. All incidents that occur are thoroughly investigated and corrective actions are taken to mitigate future risk.

Cardinal Rules

Compliance with safety requirements by all Company employees and business partners is central to ensuring industrial safety. The Company’s key requirements are included in the Cardinal Rules, and any violation of these leads to the termination of employment contracts for employees and a year-long ban from Uralkali’s sites for contractors’ employees.

Uralkali runs an occupational health and safety management system, which is continuously improved and adjusted from time to time to match operating conditions. The system covers all employees and production facilities of the Company.

Hazard identification, accident and injury risk assessment and management are mandatory procedures of the occupational health and safety management systems.

As required by Russian legislation, Rostekhnadzor and the Ministry of Emergencies, the Company carries out risk assessments for all new projects. For hazardous production facilities, an analysis of emergency risks is performed, together with drawing up Safety Data Sheets and Accident Risk Assessment Reports for HIFs. Particular attention is paid to assessing various risks for processes and facilities, within which fatal accidents occurred, to prevent their recurrence in the future.

Based on the injury risk assessment results, training is provided in high-risk areas.

The key to safe work is employee awareness and the continued development of skills to support compliance with labour, fire and industrial safety requirements. Before work starts at production facilities, employees receive a mandatory briefing at the workplace.

The Company strives to develop a safety culture, and to motivate and educate employees to enhance safety performanxce. Every year, Company employees receive training and certification in the following HSE areas:

  • Industrial Safety
  • Labour Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Protection in Emergencies

In addition to training, which is required by law, the Company also runs initiatives that motivate employees to develop proposals to improve potentially hazardous working conditions and invites them to advisory working panels to help develop local regulation. Production employees participate in the meetings of the Council for Prevention of HSE Violations.
